Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions regarding FaceCam setup, audio compatibility, dual-track recording, and on-device privacy.

Recording & Dual-Track

How does Dual-Track recording keep my screen and camera separate?

When you record with floating camera preview turned off, FaceCam captures your screen via Android's MediaProjection into a dedicated screen track and records your front or rear camera into an uncompressed HD camera track simultaneously. Because they are separate video files, you can adjust the FaceCam size, shape, position, and AI effects in the studio editor after recording without having to re-record your screen.

Recording & Dual-Track

Can I move or resize the camera overlay after I finish recording?

Yes! In Dual-Track mode (floating preview off), the FaceCam overlay is completely dynamic. Inside the FaceCam Studio editor, you can drag the bubble to any location, change between Circle, Rounded Rectangle, and Square shapes, adjust size from small to large, and enable mirror mode before exporting.

Recording & Dual-Track

What is the difference between Floating Preview ON vs OFF?

When floating camera preview is turned ON, the visible camera is recorded directly into the screen track (full-display capture), which is great for quick takes where you don't need post-editing. When floating camera preview is turned OFF, the screen and camera are recorded as completely separate tracks, giving you full post-recording control over layout, shapes, and AI effects.

Audio Capture

Can I record internal game and app audio?

Yes. FaceCam supports native internal audio capture on devices running Android 10 or later using Android's AudioPlaybackCapture API. You can record device audio alone, microphone commentary alone, or both simultaneously with independent volume sliders.

Audio Capture

Why is internal audio silent on some apps?

Android allows individual apps to opt out of internal playback capture. Furthermore, DRM-protected media streams (like copyrighted Netflix or banking applications) are strictly protected by Android's security architecture and cannot be captured. Ensure the app you are recording permits playback capture.

AI & MediaPipe

Does MediaPipe background removal require an internet connection?

No! All MediaPipe models (selfie segmentation and face detection) are bundled directly inside the FaceCam Android application and execute locally on your device's NPU/GPU/CPU. Processing runs during export, meaning zero mobile data is consumed and your footage is 100% private.

Privacy & Permissions

Does FaceCam collect my personal data or upload files?

Never. FaceCam has no accounts, no logins, no cloud databases, and no analytics providers. In fact, the 'android.permission.INTERNET' permission is completely absent from the production release manifest. All recordings remain in your private local app storage until you choose to export them to your gallery.

Tutorial Studio

How does the Tutorial Studio whiteboard export without toolbars?

Tutorial Studio renders your pen strokes, highlighters, and paper backgrounds directly into an AVC video encoder surface. The on-screen editing toolbars, color selectors, and page tabs live outside the encoder pipeline, ensuring your exported lesson video is completely clean and distraction-free.

Storage & Export

Where are my exported MP4 videos saved?

Exported videos are saved to your standard Movies/FaceCam gallery directory. They appear immediately in Google Photos, Samsung Gallery, or any other media manager on your phone, ready to be edited or shared.

Storage & Export

How much storage space does recording require?

We recommend having approximately 200–300 MB of free storage per 5 minutes of high-definition Dual-Track recording, which preserves both raw camera and screen sources plus working space for export.
